Iowa Justice For Our Neighbors is a non-profit organization that assists low-income Iowans with free immigration legal services.

We have monthly or quarterly clinics which are hosted by churches throughout the state, including in Storm Lake, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Columbus Junction, Ottumwa, and Decorah.

We ONLY assist with immigration legal matters. To make an appointment at one of our clinics, please call 515-255-9809 on Monday between 12:00pm - 4:00pm, or on Friday between 9:00am - 1:00pm to make an appointment.

Clients who already have a signed agreement with JFON may call anytime during business hours for service.

Iowa Legal Aid is a statewide organization that provides civil legal assistance to low-income Iowans on a broad range of issues.

Examples include: housing (including landlord-tenant law and foreclosure), family law (prioritizing help to survivors of domestic violence), public benefits (including Medicaid, unemployment benefits and VA benefits) and consumer law (including wage garnishment), and other issues (including advance directives, expungement of criminal records, tax controversies--but not tax preparation, and help with disaster-related issues).

Iowa Legal Aid does not handle any criminal cases. Iowa Legal Aid has 10 regional offices. The Iowa City Regional Office serves 7 counties, including Louisa, Muscatine and Cedar.

What is Juvenile Court Services?

The juvenile court is a specialized court within the district court that presides over four kinds of cases related to children:
Child in Need of Assistance (CINA) cases most typically involve abused, abandoned, or neglected children, and sometimes lead to termination of parental rights.
Delinquency cases involve acts that would be considered criminal acts if committed by an adult.
Commitment proceedings involve the placement of a child in a hospital or other treatment facility for mental illness or a substance abuse problem.

The Alternative Community Treatment program is for youth ages 11-17 living in Des Moines, Lee, and Louisa counties. The goal is to decrease the need for these individuals to be placed outside of the home.

Programming includes skill development classes, Aggression Replacement Therapy (ART), community service projects, healthy interactions, team building activities, and weekly individual and family therapy.

Youth may be referred by the Juvenile Court Services or families my choose a private pay option.

Enhanced Monitoring/Outreach Program: Provides free services to families referred by the Juvenile Court Services. Services include in-home treatment and programming.

Tracking and Monitoring: Staff follow up with the youth in the home and school setting to ensure safety and to enhance accountability. Services are free by referral from the Juvenile Court Services.
