This program can provide income-based financial assistance to individuals pursuing vocational training programs that do not qualify for traditional financial aid. Examples of programs that may qualify include production welding, truck driving, logistics, industrial maintenance, CNC machinist, ProE Basics, Industrial electricity, Lab Technician, alternative energy, food service/dietary manager, clerk/receptionist, home care aid, and certified nurse aid.

Youth @ Work is an employment program through IowaWORKS that works with young people. Services may include paid work experience, job training, help with transportation and child care, summer sessions, job preparation tools, and more. There is programming available for youth both in and out of the school setting with eligibility criteria as follows:
In-School Program:
-Be a citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the US, and
-Meet military Selective Services registration requirements, and
-Attending school (high school or higher), and
-Between 14 and 21 years of age, and
-Low income or living in a high poverty area, and
-One or more of the following:
Basic skills deficient
English language learner
Offender
Homeless
Pregnant or parenting
Disabled
Requires additional assistance to complete an educations program or to secure or hold employment
Out of School Program:
-Be a citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the US
-Meet military Selective Service registration requirements, and
-Not attending school, and
-Between the ages of 16 and 24 years, and
-One or more of the following:
School drop-out
Within the age or required school attendance but has not attended for the most recent school calendar quarter
Received high school diploma or equivalent but is low income and either basic skills deficient or English language learner
Subject to juvenile or adult justice system
Homeless
Pregnant or parenting
Disabled
Low income or living in high poverty area with need for additional assistance to complete education or secure employment

At Kirkwood's community center locations students can earn 2-year Associate's Degrees, some without ever having to travel to Cedar Rapids. Some other programs may be mainly based at the Cedar County Center with intermittent trips to the main campus. Students can also obtain general education credits to transfer to the main Kirkwood campus or another school.
